NAGPUR: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has okayed city-based GH Raisoni College of Engineering's proposal to start Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence from the academic year 2019-20.
With this, the institute has become the first to offer the course in the city and second across the country after Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad.
Earlier in January, IIT-H had announced the B.Tech programme with an intake of 20 students who would be admitted through the all India entrance, JEE Advanced.
"In the past two years, Indian companies are investing high on using AI. This has led to huge requirement of workforce of AI professionals in India. AI professionals are getting 60-80% hikes while switching jobs, compared with an average of 20-30% in other skill areas. Starting such programme is a step towards meeting high demand of AI professionals in the technology sector,” said GHRCE director Preeti Bajaj.
The AICTE approval to start the UG programme at GHRCE comes with an intake of 60, more than even IIT-H. The institute had started Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning last year, Bajaj said.
Bajaj attributed the success to Raisoni Group of Institutions and Governing Board chairman Sunil Raisoni. He took special interest in proposing the need for such a programme and looking forward towards the global demand of AI skilled professionals, she said.
The director boasted that the institute has been working relentlessly towards innovation and technology.
GHRCE was ranked 111th pan-India in engineering discipline as declared by NIRF ranking 2019. The Institute is also ranked in top 100 for ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements) Ranking 2019.

It has been accredited by NAAC with “A+” grade (3.51 score out of 4). GHRCE is consistently in top 5 patent filers for last three years as per reports of Indian Patent Office, Bajaj said.
Recently, it has received approval and sanctioned for establishing NIDHI-Technology Business Incubator by NSTEDB, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This achievement too makes it first institute in Vidarbha to get NIDHI-TBI.
Earlier, the institute has been recipient of IEDC grant (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre) by NSTEDB, DST.
