PATNA: Newly-established Munger University on Tuesday earned the distinction of becoming the first institution of higher education in the state to introduce the University Management Information System (UMIS).
Munger varsity vice-chancellor Ranjit Kumar Verma inaugurated the centralized online system of admission for all undergraduate courses in 30 colleges which fall under the university.
“Under the new system, a student need not apply separately in different colleges or for different courses. He or she can indicate all his/her choice of courses and colleges in order of preference in a single application, thus saving time from unwarranted physical and mental harassment. I hope it will be a great financial relief to the guardians also,” said Verma.
“A candidate can submit online application for admission from anywhere in the world and need not visit the college or university office for purchasing or submitting the application forms. The last date for receipt of filled in online application form is May 29, after which the university will declare the list of candidates selected for admission along with the allotment of subject as well as college. Thus the candidate can then secure admission in the desired course in the allotted college, the VC added.
All other works related to admission and examination of students would now be done online and the academic records of students would be also available in the National Academic Depository (NAD). All fees would be accepted online. The university is running honours teaching in a number of arts and science subjects at present and it has recently been permitted by the state government to open as many as 12 new schools (postgraduate departments) from the next academic session. “The university is making necessary preparations for establishing these new schools with all infrastructure facilities,” the VC said.
It may be mentioned here that the chancellor has directed all the universities in the state to implement UMIS before the commencement of the next academic session.
