PATNA: Police on Tuesday recovered the body of a woman from her residence at road number three of Rajendra Nagar under Kadamkuan police station area in Patna.
Within few hours of recovery, police arrested the woman’s husband Amit Kumar (28) and her father-in-law Sunil Kumar Singh (58) for alleged involvement in the murder. Amit runs a medical shop, a fast food restaurant as well as a car washing centre which all are located on the ground floor of his three-storey ancestral building.
A pathological laboratory and a doctor’s clinic also run on rent on the ground floor.
City SP (central) Prantosh Kumar Das said that the preliminary investigations indicate that the woman identified as Anamika Kumari (24) was strangulated to death.
“Amit and his father are the prime suspects in the case. The husband was an alcohol addict and regularly used to thrash the woman after coming home in inebriated state,” he said, adding, the exact motive behind murder was being investigated.
Meanwhile, Kadamkuan police station SHO Nishikant Nishi said that police received information about the incident after midnight from the family members of the woman who had already reached the spot.
“The woman was native of Hassanpura village under Beur police station area and got married to Amit on June 27 last year,” he said.
There’s injury on the right side of the back of the woman’s head and blood was coming out of it.

“There was also ligature mark on the woman’s neck. When police had reached the spot, her body was kept on floor, with no noose either on her neck or on ceiling of the room,” he said.
The SHO said Nitish Kumar, who is the woman’s brother, had alleged that she had been murdered by Amit on provocation of his father and other family members.
“Police were yet to receive a written complaint from the woman’s family,” he said, adding, the body was handed over to family after post-mortem at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
The SHO, quoting the husband, said he had a fight with Anamika on Monday night after she had demanded Rs 300 from him as daily expenses.
“Amit told police that he left home after dispute and returned several hours back to find her hanging. However, his narration is not corroborating with the crime scenario. Amit also said that Anamika was three months’ pregnant when she had a miscarriage in March this year,” Nishikant added.
