PATNA: A trap team of vigilance investigation bureau led by DSP Bimlendu Kumar Verma on Tuesday arrested a constable Ajay Kumar posted in City SP (east) Rajendra Kumar Bheel’s office, while accepting a bribe of Rs 1lakh from one Mustafa Hussain in lieu of helping him to turn the investigation of two cases in his favour.
The constable was arrested near a milk parlour located in front of a cinema hall at Kargil Chowk while accepting the bribe.

Hussain is the managing director of a firm—Brand Protection Services Private Limited—which keeps a check on market and prevents selling of counterfeit items of branded products on behalf of manufacturing firms. The firm is registered in Patna. A team of Hussain’s firm had lodged an FIR with the Malsalami and Jakkanpur police stations against few persons for selling counterfeit items of branded cosmetic items.
Following the FIR, the constable contacted Hussain and demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe for turning each case ‘true’. DSP Verma said, “The arrested constable was posted at the SP office since October last year and was assigned the task of preparing supervision reports of cases which were later signed by senior officials. An internal inquiry was conducted by the bureau after receiving complaints in which Hussain’s allegation of demanding bribe was found to be true. An FIR was lodged against Ajay on Tuesday and a trap team was formed to nab him.”
