Defending champion Rajasthan opened its campaign in the boys’ section with a thumping 85-29 win over Delhi in the 36th Youth (under-16) National basketball championship at the PSG indoor stadium courts here on Tuesday.
Even as Digoyay Singh (25 pts) and Shivam Kumawat (25 pts), were calling the shots for Rajasthan in the main court, Karnataka stunned the crowd with a surprise 67-64 win over a fighting Kerala in the other.
It was a similar show in girls’ section with title holder Punjab huffing and puffing before pulling off an extra time 74-69 win over Delhi . Harsimra Kaur (26) and Kanisha (20) did the bulk of the scoring for the winner.
Mixed day for TN
For host Tamil Nadu, it was a day of mixed fortunes with the girls pounding Madhya Pradesh 79-29 and the boys going down to Haryana 82-63.
