PATNA: Shyam Babu alias Javed (40), an associate of incarcerated former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin was shot dead near his residence at Ramrajya Mor under the Town police station area in Siwan on Wednesday evening. Javed was also a witness in Shahabuddin’s nephew murder case.
Siwan SP Naveen Chandra Jha said the reason behind the murder was still unknown and family members were yet to tell anything to police.
“Javed was also associated with six people who are in jail for their alleged involvement in the killing of Shahabuddin’s nephew Mohammad Yusuf, who was murdered on February 1 night,” he said.
Yusuf’s bullet-riddled body was recovered from DAV Mor under the Town police station area in Siwan. Jha said all six persons allegedly involved in Yusuf’s killing were still behind bars and police had submitted chargesheet in the case.
He said Javed was on foot when he was shot in the back of his head at a very close range, killing him on the spot.
“At least five to six criminals were involved in the murder. Two empty cartridges were recovered from the spot,” the SP said. He said the bullet pierced through Javed’s head. He said Javed owned a meat shop at his residence, which was hardly a few paces from the spot where he was gunned down.
Jha said at least eight cases of loot, theft, extortion, scuffle and firearms recovery were lodged against Javed and his name was on the police list of people associated with Shahabuddin. “Town police used to constantly maintain a dossier on Javed,” he added.
