For the second year in a row, the tribal dominated district stands at 29th position in the overall pass percentage of the SSC public examinations in the State. The results were announced on Monday.
The district registered 84.10% pass percentage this year, marking an improvement of 12.97% over last year. However, it failed to move up in State ranking and settled at 29th slot, just above Mahabubnagar and Hyderabad districts in terms of overall pass percentage.
Of the total 13,571 students who appeared for the SSC exams in the district this year, 11,413 students have passed the exams. As many as 2,158 students have failed, most of them in mathematics and science, sources added.
Best and worst
One of the notable features of this year's results is that the border mandal of Charla recorded an impressive 96.98 pass percentage. Karakagudem mandal registered the lowest pass percentage of 52.53. Girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 86.07 as against 81.95 registered by the latter.
As many as 11 schools recorded 100% results and one school registered zero pass, sources added.
Tribal welfare residential educational institutions of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, recorded an overall pass percentage of 74.03, up by 10.70% from last year.
The tribal welfare boys hostels at S.N. Puram in Charla and Annapureddypalli in Dammapeta mandals as well as the tribal welfare ashram high school at Shambunigudem in Yellandu mandal recorded 100% results.
However, the Ashram high schools at Arlagudem, Bhadrachalam and Karakagudem registered lower pass percentages — 30.69%, 42.03% and 44.19%, respectively.
Review meeting called
Meanwhile, school education authorities have called a district-level meeting of headmasters of all the high schools in Kothagudem to review the SSC exam results. An action plan will be chalked out in the meeting to improve subject-specific competencies of students with thrust on math, science and English, sources said.
ITDA authorities are also planning special coaching classes for the students who failed in the SSC exams to enable them prepare well for the ensuing SSC advanced supplementary exams to be held from June 10 to 24.
