Mysuru: Inter-state gangster shot dead in police encounter

Though the accused was rushed to K.R. Hospital, he was declared brought dead.

MYSURU: A member of an inter-state gang involved in exchanging demonetised currency was shot dead by the police when he attacked a constable while trying to resist arrest at Hebbal in Vijaynagar police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Sukvinder Singh (40), hailing from Punjab.

Mysuru city Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna said that after the police got a tip off that a three-member gang was present near R.V. Residency apartment, located close to the Ring Road, Vijaynagar police inspector B.G. Kumar and three constables rushed to the spot.

While two of the accused escaped, Constable Veerabhad—raswamy caught one of them. But he tried to fire at the constable from his revolver. The inspector fired at him in retaliation.

Though the accused was rushed to K.R. Hospital, he was declared brought dead.

IGP Umesh Kumar and other top police officials visited the hospital.

The body has been kept at the mortuary of Mysuru Medical College and Research institute. The family of accused is reportedly on their way, according to police.

Narisimharaja division ACP Mariyappa will be carrying out further investigation and the search is on to nab the two other accused. Vijaynagar police have registered a case.
