PATNA: He not only suffered excruciating pain of acid burns while saving his sister from molesters, but also had to go through the mental trauma of appearing before the Patna high court to prove that his injuries were not simple, as stated in the medical report prepared by a doctor posted at a government hospital.
Raghvendra Kumar (26) opened his shirt before Justice Birendra Kumar to convince the court that the two accused seeking bail did not deserve it on their plea that the burn injuries were simple in nature.
Not only the medical report of the doctor concerned, but also the investigating officer’s case diary mentioned the victim’s injuries as simple.
Justice Birendra immediately rejected the regular bail petitions of Vinod Mahto and his son Darshan Mahto, who are accused of pouring acid on Raghvendra.
Questioning the injury report prepared by Dr Arvind Kumar of Hasanpur PHC, Justice Birendra gave orders for speedy trial of the case and get it completed within six months. It was counsel Kundan Kumar who had sought permission for physical appearance of Raghvendra before the court to prove that his injuries were serious.
Raghvendra had suffered acid attack while trying to save his younger sister from some of their village predators who had started molesting her. The victims belong to Samastipur district and the incident took place on November 18 last year.
The girl had gone to collect cattle feed. While returning, Darshan’s brother Pappu Kumar and their cousin Pankaj Kumar allegedly started molesting her. Raghvendra and his other family members heard her screams for help and rushed to rescue her. When Raghvendra was fighting with Pappu and Pankaj to save his sister, Vinod and Darshan along with several others also reached there. Darshan was carrying a bottle filled with acid and smashed it on Raghvendra’s head, resulting in severe acid burn injuries on his head, neck, chest, abdomen, waist and other limbs. Altogether 11 persons were made named accused in the case.
