SC notice to govt, CBSE on EWS quota in CTET

SC notice to govt, CBSE on EWS quota in CTET
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to Centre and CBSE on a plea alleging that the law providing 10% reservation for economically weaker sections was not being implemented in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), 2019.
Agreeing to hear a PIL filed by a group of students claiming to belong to EWS, a vacation bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna sought response from Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and posted the case to July 1.

Advocate Pushkar Sharma, appearing for the petitioner, told the bench that CBSE published an advertisement on January 23, 2019 for conducting CTET but it did not mention about giving reservation to economically weaker sections and sought court’s intervention.
“The petitioners herein belong to the economically weaker section of the society and are filing petition for a direction to the ministry of human resource development to ensure proper implementation of Constitution (One hundred and third amendment) Act, 2019 by providing quota benefit to the petitioners who belong to the section... as is provided to SCs, STs and OBCs,”the petition said.
