AGRA: Continuing their efforts to change the image of the police of being ‘corrupt and impolite’ to people-friendly khakee, Pilua police of
UP's Etah district on Thursday night conducted ‘kanyadan’ of an extremely
poor girl, who had lost her father earlier, at her
wedding.
The incident took place at Bhadwas village, where 19-year-old bride Brijesh was set to tie the knot with Santosh in an arranged marriage.
According to police, few years back, Brijesh’s father Maanveer Singh died due to a prolong illness, leaving three children and wife Kamlesh Devi behind.
“On Thursday evening someone told me that local villagers of Bhadwas have made contributions to conduct wedding of the girl, who hails from an extremely poor family. Since her father died few years back, there was no breadwinner. Brijesh, along with her mother Kamlesh and two teenage brothers, worked on farms to arrange meal for themselves. Therefore, we decided to help the girl with a small monetary support and also conducted ‘Kanyadan’,” said station house officer Maharaj Singh Bhatti of Pilua.
“The entire Pilua police station contributed Rs 11,000 and blessed the newly wedded couple,” he added.
Learning about the humble gesture of Pilua police, netizens lauded the men in Khakee on social media. A picture of the cops blessing the bride was widely circulated on web.
