The ladies who let loose on each other at lavish cocktail parties in these glittering mansions show our Australian Housewives, and most certainly our singletons posturing in Paradise, up for what they are: amateurs. Who cares if the likes of Melrose Place’s Lisa Rinna (pictured) or Days of Our Lives’ Eileen Davidson are falling back on technique when it comes to face acting and middle-distance gazing. At least their petty tiffs are mildly entertaining.

Prospective bank robbers, take note: the adage about best-laid plans is true. This diamond heist is a clever one, with almost the entire cast of emergency personnel caught in the red-herring net. By crashing headlong into the actual crisis before introducing the various relationship ones, this high-octane drama maintains an energy that propels every scenario, however mundane it might be compared to that taking place centre stage.
