7.30pm, NITV

We’ve been guided through the wonders of remote Australia by travel-show hosts, chefs, wildlife enthusiasts and comedians from here and abroad, but rarely by an Indigenous TV personality. Showbiz royalty Ernie Dingo does so with great warmth and an inquisitive eye on history and change. Here, he’s on Thursday Island, meeting the intriguing locals including music legend, Aunty Cessa Mills.

Mini-series final *****

7.40pm, ABC

This searching of the war-ravaged soul of Hercule Poirot (exquisitely reimagined here by John Malkovich) makes its measured way to a typically Christie conclusion. The explanation of all that detective work, doggedly done against a grainy 1933 London backdrop, unfolds slowly, allowing a full examination of the culprit and his victims, living and dead. This deliciously melancholic mystery leaves a lingering taste of despair.

HOARDERS

**1/2

7.45pm, SBS Viceland

Continuous recaps suggest that this program is made for an audience suffering its own disorder – that affecting the ability to retain information for more than four minutes. The compulsive hoarding portrayed graphically by two people so afflicted is fascinating from a psychological point of view. A deeper dig into this aspect of the issue might be more interesting and productive than the shock factor of all that stuff.
