Louisville baseball earns ACC regular-season championship with 11-0 win over Florida State
The Louisville baseball team took care of business Saturday with an 11-0 win over Florida State to finish the regular season with the best conference record in the ACC and the No. 1 overall seed in next week's ACC tournament. This is the third time the Cardinals (43-13) have finished with the league's best record. They also won the ACC regular season in 2016 and 2017. "I'm really proud of these guys. To have the best record in one of the best leagues in all of college baseball, that's a great accomplishment. So I want them to enjoy this and be proud, because this is a lot of hard work and it's years in the making when you win a championship like this," Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell said. The Cardinals got a strong performance from starting pitcher Bobby Miller, who went six innings with no runs, two hits and eight strikeouts. They took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs in the inning, followed by two more in the second. The Cardinals scored in every inning except the seventh.Danny Oriente led UofL at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Jake Snider also had three hits as the Cardinals put up 15 hits as a team. "It means a lot. The early morning workouts in the offseason, practices, it just means a lot. This group is special. I think we're going to do big things," infielder Justin Lavey said. ACC tournament pool play begins Tuesday in Durham, North Carolina. The 12 teams to make the field are divided into pools of three teams.Louisville will be paired with eighth-seeded Clemson and 12th-seeded Boston College. The winner of each pool advances to Saturday's semifinal round. The championship game is scheduled for May 26.
