Elaborate arrangements are under way for holding repolling in seven booths in the Kannur and Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituencies on May 19 following the Election Commission’s finding that bogus voting took place in the booths on April 23.

Six of the seven booths where repolling was ordered are in Kannur district. They are booth 166 (Mappila AUP School at Pamburuthi in the Taliparamba Assembly segment), booth 52 (Kunnirika UP School north block) and booth 53 in the south block of the same school in the Dharmadam segment) in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency, booth 19 (Pilathara UP School in the Kalliassery segment) booth 69 (Puthiyangadi Jumaat High School, north block) and booth 70 (south block of the same school) in the Kasaragod constituency. Booth 48 at Kooliyad GUP School in the Trikkarippur segment in Kasaragod is also going for repoll on Sunday.

The repoll would be held under strong surveillance. Kannur District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali said the booths in the district would have video coverage and webcasting. Officers in the rank of tahsildar have been appointed as presiding officers. Officers in the rank of village officer will be sector officers.

Kasaragod District Collector and District Electoral Officer D. Sajith Babu said that voters wearing face covering veil would be examined for verification in booth 48 in the district. A female employee has been posted in the booth to identify such voters, he said.
