Union’s doubles team of Nicole Knudtson and Miriam Muntean continued their strong postseason by winning the 4A bi-district girls tennis tournament Saturday at Kent.

The 4A district champs did not drop a set and lost just nine games in their four matches. They finished with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the championship match.

They advance to the 4A state tournament in Richland next weekend.

Skyview freshman Leilani Gonzalez placed sixth to also qualify for state. However she is unable to attend the state tournament due to a prior family obligation.

3A bi-district — Mountain View is sending two doubles teams and a singles player to the state tournament in Kennewick next week.

Anna Lu and Grace Garmire won the doubles title 6-4, 6-2 over teammates Elin Bertheau and Caroline Johnson. Lu and Garmire won the 3A district title last week over their teammates as well.

Both teams earned their state berths by reaching the semifinals.

Junior Shreya Bhatra, the 3A district champ, earned a return trip to state by reaching the semifinals where she was beat in a 3-plus hour match 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. She went on to place third with a 7-5, 6-2 win.

Prairie singles players Sarah Shirley and Emma Tuttle did not place, but will be alternates for state.

Mountain View added to its team trophy haul by winning the 3A bi-district title to go with the 3A district and 3A Greater St. Helens League titles.
