AGRA: A 24-year-old married girl and her father were brutally beaten to death by the girl’s in-laws and their family in UP's Etah on Saturday. According to police, the girl, Savitri Devi, along with her father Rakshpal Gupta (70), had gone to her husband’s house to try resolve the ongoing dowry dispute between the families.
Police said Savitri had been staying with her parents in Sarai Aghat ever since she left her husband’s house after a dispute over dowry.
Yesterday, they had gone there for a compromise, but things turned sour and her in-laws along with their family members attacked them with a hammer and strangulated them. The incident occurred around 2am, said police.
According to a complaint filed by Savitri’s brother, Rahul Gupta, his sister had got married three years ago and since then her in-laws and husband were torturing her physically and mentally for not arranging dowry, which included cash of Rs 5 lakh and a motorcycle. Rahul said that this matter was reported in a local panchayat too, but they were not ready to resolve the issue.
