Cannes film festival: New talent shines outside main event

Al Jazeera looks at the new talent lighting up the Cannes Film Festival.

Some of the movie industry’s most famous directors took the spotlight on day five of the Cannes Film Festival, the world’s largest celebration of cinema.

But critics looking for exciting new talent are also keeping a close eye on the Directors’ Fortnight, which runs parallel to the main competition.

Cannes Directors’ Fortnight focuses on some of the industry’s most famous directors and is credited with shaping cinematic history. The two-week-long event discovered Director George Lucas who went on to create Star Wars and launched the careers of Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, and Xavier Dolan.
