Despite season rocked by scandal, Texas tennis wins first men's national championship

The Texas Longhorns defeated the defending-national-champion Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sunday 4-1 to win the program's first NCAA men's national championship in Tennis.

The season for Texas was a tumultuous one, as former Texas coach Michael Center was fired in March in connection with the collegiate admissions scandal that helped students get into top schools around the country. Center, the Texas coach since 2000, was accused of taking a bribe of $100,000 to help a student get into Texas as a tennis recruit, even though the student did not play tennis. Center later plead guilty to the charge.
