Hyderabad: Sale of camel meat decreases in and around the city – Here’s why

Hyderabad: It has been the tradition of Hyderabad City to have camel meat during the month of Ramadan but due to the restrictions imposed by authorities for getting veterinary certificates for slaughtering camels, its sale has decreased.

According to an estimate, in the past more than 1000 camels used to be slaughtered but due to the present restrictions, in the Muslim concentration areas, the sale of camel meat has decreased.

Although, there is no restriction on the sale of camel meat but the traders are afraid of selling it.

It may be mentioned that camels used to be brought from north Indian states especially; from UP and Rajasthan but due to the latest restrictions, difficulties are being faced. The traders are avoiding buying camels saying that payments would be made after slaughtering the camel.

GHMC sources revealed that there is no ban on camel slaughter but in order to fulfill the legal formalities of slaughtering the camel, GHMC is insisting on fitness certificates.
