FARGO — As he crossed the finish line in the 3200 meter race of Friday's Eastern Dakota Conference track and field meet, West Fargo Sheyenne runner Aiden Johnson knew he'd made history.

The seventh grader at Liberty Middle School became the first seventh grader to qualify for state in the 3200 meter in North Dakota history.

Emotions poured from him as the realization of his accomplishment came to light.

Johnson was swarmed by not only his teammates, but also competitors giving him well wishes and congratulations.

For his historic performance at the EDC track and field meet, Johnson's finish in the 3200 meter race is Sports Sunday's play of the week.

Zach Staton joined WDAY as a sports reporter in 2018. He grew up in Salem, Virginia loving any sport he could play or watch.
