Two killed, 12 injured in accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Two died and 12 others suffered injuries in an accident on Monday on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, at around 7.30 a.m. The accident happened near Mhadap tunnel at Khalapur in Raigad.

A group of 20 people from Vasai were on their way for a picnic to Mahabaleshwar when the accident took place. The mini bus in which the group was travelling, crashed onto a luxury bus from the rear at Mhadap village.

“The driver had got down to answer nature’s call, when the mini bus rammed from behind,” assistant police inspector Subhash Pujari, State Highway police, said.

The luxury bus from Rajasthan was going towards Pune. The driver of the luxury bus will be booked, Mr. Pujari informed. While none from the luxury bus has been injured, driver and a passenger of mini bus, died on the spot. Four from the mini bus who were stuck between the seats, are seriously injured while eight others received minor injuries.
