Madhya Pradesh: BJP wants Kamal Nath to prove majority, demands special assembly session

The BJP on Monday sought a special assembly session claiming that the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh was now in minority. Asking Chief Minister Kamal Nath to prove his majority in the House, BJP leader Gopal Bhargava said he would ask Governor Anandiben Patel to convene a special session of the state Assembly “to discuss important issues and test the Congress government’s strength”.

“I am writing a letter to the Governor for convening a special session of MP Assembly shortly. We want discussion important issues like the farm loan waiver and (to) test the government strength,” PTI quoted Bhargava as saying.

The BJP leader said the party would seek a division to test whether the “weak” Congress government enjoyed support in the House. “There is a lot of confusion prevailing over the stability of the Congress-led government in MP,” he said.

Bhargava said the Congress, instead of debating issues in the House, was dumping papers at former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence, claiming that loans of 21 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh had been waived.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, the Congress won 114 seats, one short of the halfway mark in the 230-seat House. BJP came a close second with 109 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party has two seats, the Samajwadi Party one and the Independents four seats.
