WWE Money In The Bank 2019: Why Brock Lesnar Was The Perfect Choice To Win The Ladder Match

Brock Lesnar won the men's Money in the Bank ladder match on Sunday night in Hartford, and it was an intelligent booking decision. I'm not a huge Lesnar fan, and I'm mostly in the camp of the fans who believe his part-time schedule has been negative for WWE.

However, there are spots where he is valuable, and Sunday night was an example.

WWE didn't announce Lesnar as a part of the MITB match. Braun Strowman and Sami Zayn battled for the final spot on Raw, and the ladder won the match with the help of Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin. At MITB, Zayn was wary of Strowman seeking retribution. Strowman showed up looking for Zayn. WWE told this story pretty well through the evening.

Ultimately, Zayn was ambushed backstage and found hanging upside down from a structure. He was deemed unavailable for the match, and most assumed Strowman was responsible. I believe it was the work of the repackaged and suddenly interesting Bray Wyatt. Perhaps we'll find out more about it on Raw.

In any case, WWE didn't officially announce a replacement for Zayn, and the match went on with Mustapha Ali, Randy Orton, Ricochet, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, and Andrade. Quite honestly, those seven men did a fantastic job. The action was daring and fast-paced.

However, it did seem strange that Ali would be the man getting the major push from this group. Just as he was set to unhook the briefcase, Lesnar and Paul Heyman came charging up the ramp. Ali inexplicably froze. WWE could have booked this part of the show better, but it still served its purpose. Lesnar pushed Ali off the ladder, climbed it, and won the MITB briefcase. In a typical heel fashion, Lesnar sat atop the ladder and taunted the WWE Universe and the other wrestlers saying, "guess who's back."

It was a very strong finish to the show. While many grew tired of Lesnar as the Universal Champion, he is a far better pick as Mr. Money in the Bank.

Bayley had already won the MITB and cashed in on Charlotte in a chaotic, but entertaining sequence earlier in the show. With a decisive win on the face side already in the books, it made sense for a heel to go over in the men's match. When looking for heels, no one seems to embrace the role quite like Lesnar.

His taunting from atop the ladder was sound proof. He knows the WWE Universe has beef with him, but he doesn't care because he's wired differently than most wrestlers.

Lesnar was supposedly headed for a return to the UFC where he would have challenged Daniel Cormier for the Heavyweight Championship. However, UFC President Dana White announced last month Lesnar was retired from MMA. That appeared to commit Lesnar to the WWE further, but his appearance at MITB was still a surprise.

Lesnar isn't going to be a full-time performer, but for this role, that's OK. His unpredictable appearances could make his cash-in and teases all the more entertaining. We may not know when Lesnar is going to pop up to come after WWE Champion Kofi Kingston or Universal Champion Seth Rollins, but we know he's coming.

All things considered, that's the perfect usage of someone with Lesnar's gifts and part-time schedule.
