Sources disclose, just fifteen days prior to the examination, the teachers were given the target of achieving 65 per cent pass percentage. Source told, "On February 16, District Education Officer had called a meeting of all the school representatives when they were given a target of achieving 65% results in Class X examinations which were scheduled to be held in the month of March."
Block level education officer told reasons why the performance has remained poor and how the pass percentage has improved by 4 per cent.

Ambala I Block Education Officer (BEO) Sudhir Kalra said, "As compared to the past years, there is an improvement of 4 per cent in the overall pass percentage in Ambala district. The results have been improved as the shortfall of teachers was removed after new teachers were recruited. The other reason for the improvement is following the marking directions as prescribed by the top officials of the state education department as earlier the students were not given marks for the incomplete answers, but this year the marking has been given as per the attempt made by the students."
When questioned about reasons why the large number of students has failed in Class X of the Board of Secondary Education of Haryana examination, BEO Kalra said, "One reason is the no detention policy up to Class VIII, earlier the students were promoted to Class IX after they passed the board examination of Class VIII and they also had to pass the other classes up to Class VII, but since the adoption of no detention policy some students are not able to perform in Class IX and X. The second reason is that there is an ongoing Saksham Haryana project for students of Class III, V and VII, and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) and even Principals of the schools are appointed additional work of Saksham project due to which the PGT teachers' performance has received a hit as they are the ones who actually concentrate on the students of Class X and XII."
