Coronation Street favourite Sam Aston has said he is "the luckiest man alive" after he married his childhood sweetheart.

The actor, who plays the lovable Chesney Brown, wed yoga teacher Briony Gardner in a stunning Cheshire ceremony earlier this month.

The wedding was attended by many of Sam's castmates including Brooke Vincent, Katie McGlynn, Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine who plays his on-screen sister Fizz in the ITV soap.

Speaking of his nuptials, which were held on Stock Farm just on the edge of Tatton Park in Cheshire, and seeing his then wife-to-be for the first time, the 25-year-old Corrie star said: "When I turned around and saw Briony, I thought she looked unbelievably beautiful.

"The ceremony was a surreal experience – it was joy on the highest level."

He added: "I had to compose myself when I said my vows, I could feel a lump in my throat."

Briony, who Sam describes as his "best friend", wore a stunning off the shoulder Riki Dalal gown which she said made her feel like the "most beautiful person ever."

Sam took to one knee and proposed to his partner of five years in summer 2017 in front of over 250 people at the annual charity golf dinner that he hosts with co-stars Alan (Tyrone Dobbs) and Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) at the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel in Salford.

Clearly not shy in front of a crown, the newlyweds took to the floor for their first dance and performed an acroyoga routine which they learnt and choreographed before the wedding.

Sam said: "I almost dropped Briony at the end of our first dance!"

The young Weatherfield star has played Chesney for 16 years.

Whilst the real-life couple say they want to go on a Harley Davidson trip through northern Italy before having "a house full" of children, Sam's character on the cobbles is facing life as a father of five as ex-girlfriend Gemma Winter, played by Dolly-Rose Campbell is set to find out she is pregnant with quadruplets.
