Hyderabad: The State government plans to encourage house owners to go in for cool, green and strong roof tops, according to Principal Secretary to Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Arvind Kumar.

Speaking at a workshop at Vishweshwaraiah Bhavan here today, Arvind Kumar appealed to the people to adopt this phenomenon to reduce power bills. This will help the people get cool and green environment and beat the heat problem, he opined. Arvind Kumar put it that the government will encourage the people to have the formula of cool, green and energetic roof tops to ensure reduction in power bills and build a society free from pollution. The official underscored the need for this formula as air-conditions use will swell the power bills. Use of the cool, greenery and strong rooftop will help overcome the problem, he felt.

Arvind Kumar said in the country less than 10 per cent of the people are only using air-conditioners, while in Telangana State, the consumption of power is 1500 units per head against the All India average put at 1122 units per head. He also said in Telangana State the population will rise to 50 percent from existing 42 per cent in the cities. He pointed out that rooftops with greenery will surely reduce 3 to 4 degrees temperature and need of the hour is awareness among people. The investment for the purpose of greenery will work for over two years, he added. The government will take up awareness and involve people in this regard, he added.
