Out-of-contract Sale Sharks winger Paolo Odogwu could be set for a summer switch to Wasps.

The Rugby Paper reported on Sunday that the Coventry-born 22-year-old has been approached by Dai Young to offer him a route away from the AJ Bell Stadum.

The former England U20 international scored seven tries in his 29 senior appearances at Sale Sharks where he competed with Marland Yarde, Byron McGuigan, Chris Ashton and Arron Reed for the number 11 shirt.

Odogwu, who also featured on loan at National League sides Sale and at Rotherham, was announced among Sale Sharks' summer departures on Friday. He was once likened to former Wasps star Christian Wade following his dazzling displays in the 2016 Premiership Rugby Sevens.

After breaking Wade's try-scoring record for a round of the Sevens, the then-teenager was quoted as saying: "Wade's a world-class finisher and he's a similar build to me, so it shows that you don't have to be tall to play."

Paolo Odogwu has been released by Sale Sharks

Wasps currently only have two specialist wingers in their squad; Josh Bassett and Marcus Watson. They have been a winger light since October when Wade retired to pursue a career in American Football.

Three centres have been deployed out wide by Dai Young this season; Ross Neal, Elliot Daly and Michele Campagnaro - with only Neal remaining at the club next season.

Young told CoventryLive earlier this season that another winger was on of his transfer priorities.

Toulon, Stade Francais and Scarlets lie in wait

The 17 teams Wasps will be competing against to lift the European Challenge Cup next season have been confirmed.

Finishing eighth saw the Black and Golds drop out of the premier European competition but some big clubs will be in the hat to reach the final on Friday, May 22 at Stade de Marseille

The 18 qualifiers are: Wasps, Bristol, Worcester, Leicester, London Irish, Stade Francais, Bordeaux Begles, Toulon, Pau, Agen, Grenoble, Cardiff Blues, Scarlets, Edinburgh, Dragons, Zebre, Calvisano, Enisei.

Wasps duo win unwanted awards

Wasps have gained two unwanted awards in The Times' review of the season by journalists Owen Slot and Alex Lowe.

They rated Lima Sopoaga was the 'Worst signing of the season' needs renewed confidence and a lot of work on his defence to ensure his second season in English rugby is more successful than his first.

In the same article, Christian Wade's retirement was rated as the 'Biggest loss to rugby'.

Ex-Wasps winger in play-off action

Wasps may have finished well short of the play-off places this season, but a player who started the season in Black and Gold did feature in knock-out rugby last weekend.

Ambrose Curtis arrived from New Zealand last summer but failed to make an impact and was allowed to join Pro D2 club Vannes.

The 27-year-old has featured on both wings and at fullback for the North-West France club scoring six tries in 10 games - including a hat-trick against Mt.Marsan in the final round of regular-season games.

Unfortunately, Vannes could not reach the final as they lost 40-20 against Brive in the semi on Sunday.
