When it comes to family festivals there's no shortage of fun to be had this year.

Whether you're a seasoned festival goer or considering it for the first time, there are loads of events to take the kids along to.

With camping for those willing to put their faith in our good old British weather and day passes for those who aren't, there's something for everyone.

We've been taking a look at what's on offer for families within an hour or so's drive of Manchester. And you'll be spoilt for choice.

Kendal Calling, Lowther Deer Park, Lake District

An 'abundance of family-friendly entertainment' has been announced for those mini Kendal Callers this year as the event goes Jurassic.

Little ones can crawl, hop or fly to the Kids Calling area anytime throughout the weekend for arts and crafts, theatre performances and workshops galore.

They're encouraged to get creative with the Re-Psych Project and create Ice Age costumes and pasta-saurus pictures in the hands-on sessions.

There'll be a chance for tots to dance at the daily discos and ancient movement and fire workshops, and if you’re feeling more energetic join in with the Triceratoss hoopla, Dino egg and spoon races and more.

On the Saturday afternoon the Dino Village will give families a chance to get involved in Jurassic-inspired games, face painting, art and crafts, competitions and general silliness, with a host of friendly activity leaders.

At 2pm that day you can join in the prehistoric parade, so expect flying pteranodons, marching dinosaurs, animal-skinned percussionists, larger than life butterflies, and a host of other critters and colourful characters.

When: July 25 to 28.

Tickets: Weekend camping tickets cost £20 for children, aged six to 10, £80 for those aged 11 to 15 and £139 for adults. Book via kendalcalling.ticketline.co.uk .

Just So Festival, Rode Hall Estate, Cheshire

Just So is a firm favourite with families, many of whom return year after year.

The multi award-winning event is going to be bigger than ever this year as it celebrates its 10th birthday.

Just So Festival 2016 - review by Emma Gill

There's campfire tales, woodland theatre, circus workshops and so much more and this year the line-up will include the Hallé Children’s Choir, which is also celebrating its 10th season.

With a love of stories and childhood escapades at its heart, it's billed as 'a wonderland of literature, arts, theatre, dance, music, comedy and creative pursuits underpinned by the Tribal Tournament, the most bonkers competition in the land'.

This is where families pick a tribe - dressing up as either bees, foxes, frogs, owls, fish, stags or lions - and compete to collect the most golden nuggets across the weekend, before the winners are crowned at the end of a huge tribal parade on the Sunday evening.

The festival , produced by the hugely popular Wild Rumpus, takes place at the Rode Hall Estate in Cheshire.

When: August 16 to 18.

Tickets:

Day tickets start at £30 for adults and £15 for children. Under threes go free. Weekend camping £145 for adults and £50 for children. To book visit www.justsofestival.org.uk .

There's a bathtime baby bubble rave for tots in the under fives area and there's even some Wengardium Levi-Yoga  - yes, that's Harry Potter-themed yoga - in the wellbeing area that is The Hideaway.
