On Sunday night, the eight were drinking liquor and dancing on the terrace and making a loud noise, when Kannappan and Baskar objected to it.

Chennai: Eight persons are undergoing treatment after acid was thrown at them by a neighbour in Nerkundram on Sunday night. Police said the man splashed acid on them as they attacked him, his wife and brother for objecting to their nuisance of drinking and creating a ruckus on their apartment's terrace.

According to police, the accused Kannappan (33), a silversmith, lived on the third floor of the building with wife Ranjani and his brother Baskar, a painter. Eight men identified as Alagumuthu (38), Karuppusamy (32), Vanjinathan (18), Velmurugan (23), Veeraswamy (23), Ashok (19), Velmurugan (25) and Velmurugan (23), all hailing from Ariyalur, worked in the Koyambedu vegetable market and were residing in a flat on the second floor of the building, police said.

On Sunday night, the eight were drinking liquor and dancing on the terrace and making a loud noise, when Kannappan and Baskar objected to it.

However, the men responded to them in an aggressive manner and continued with their drinking and creating a nuisance. When the brothers objected to their ruckus again, the eight men attacked them. Ranjani, who intervened, was also assaulted. Both of them sustained injuries on the head and hand.

Angered over this, Kannapan went into his house and came back with a bottle of the acid he uses for work, and splashed it on the eight men. They suffered burn injuries on their face and hands.
