Eagle Update: Congratulations on a great school year

Congratulations to all of our area graduates. Graduation signifies the end of one journey and the start of another. We know that all students in the New Ulm area have great chances at success because of the opportunities they received while students in our communities. Graduation ceremony for New Ulm High School is set for Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

While we focus on graduation and saying farewell to our seniors, the rest of our students will continue to complete projects, participate in recognition events and complete remaining assignments and assessments for the school year. It will be a race to the finish to get all of the requirements in for classes and activities.

I would like to recognize those staff members who are retiring or moving on for different opportunities. Many staff members have spent decades mentoring students to be their best and we wish them well in retirement. For those moving on to new opportunities, we thank you for the time you gave our students and families. We wish you all the best with your future plans.

Finishing a school year is a major milestone for everyone. For staff, it signifies the end of working with students they have had in their classrooms all year and the great memories that were made. For students it signifies growth from one grade to the next — excited for summer and the upcoming school year. For parents, it signifies that you will now have your student back for the summer.

During the summer, we will conduct annual maintenance of buildings and complete additional capital projects to keep our facilities safe and inviting. Projects we will complete: a roof project at WLC; replace older lighting in stairwells at WLC, Jefferson and the Middle School; repair parking lots throughout the district; replace classroom doors at the Middle School and replace select exterior doors at WLC and the Middle School.

I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend and a great summer.

Go Eagles!
