PUNE: The Deccan Gymkhana police and the crime branch personnel, who are on the job to locate a 45-day-old kidnapped boy, are having a tough time in the absence of any photograph or identification mark of the child.
The baby boy was kidnapped by five unidentified motorcycle-borne men in wee hours of May 15 from the Riverbed Road in Deccan. Police said the family is very poor and had not taken any photograph of the child.
Policemen probing the crime don't know what the child looks like. In the first few days of the investigation, they were really struggling in the dark. Then after spotting a few similar-age babies on the roads in Navi Mumbai and other parts of the city, they got confused.
Now the police are taking the family members to the different locations to help identify the baby. "We have divided the family members and are taking them with us for the identification purpose," a senior officer said.
A team, headed by assistant commissioner of police Sameer Shaikh (crime), is investigating the case. The crime branch officials have obtained the CCTV footage of the suspects on motorcycles from various places, especially in the Shaniwar and Sadashiv Peth areas. So far, police have not obtained any clue.
The newborn's mother, Rangeela Kale-Chavan, 20, a resident of the Deccan area, had lodged a kidnapping complaint with the Deccan Gymkhana police station.
