LUCKNOW: Any devotee hosting a bhandara (community feast) on Bada Mangal will face a spot fine of Rs 2,000 if found guilty of encroaching on or littering roads.
According to LMC estimates, more than 1,500 feasts for the poor are organised in the city during the four auspicious Tuesdays. Civic officials have asked bhandara organisers to install garbage vats/bins of 40kg capacity each.
They will have to ensure that stalls do not encroach on roads and people lining up for food do not block vehicular traffic. The stalls also need to have fire safety gear like extinguishers.
Officials said a 50-member garbage disposal team had been constituted for each of the eight zones. The teams will comprise LMC workers and those of its waste management partner Eco Green. They will do rounds in their respective zones and collect garbage from the bhandara bins.
“We will charge a fee of Rs 200-500 from every bhandara organiser, depending on the waste generated. The same teams will be authorised to impose a fine of Rs 2,000 on those violating the prescribed norms,” said additional municipal commissioner Amit Singh.
The provision of penalty existed during the 2018 Bada Mangal festivities as well. However, large-scale violations were reported. The LMC was able to fined only 15 stalls for littering of roads.
