The Crime Branch – Criminal Investigation Department has solved a 2011 man-missing case by tracing a 55-year-old man, P. Madurairajan of Madurai, who was living with another family in a village in Thanjavur district, on Monday.
Madurairajan, who owned properties worth over several lakhs of rupees, had been living with his wife Ponnammal and three children at Alathur. Madurairajan, who had differences of opinion with his wife and children, went missing in 2011. His wife lodged a man missing complaint with Oomachikulam police in 2014.
As Madurai Rural District police could not trace him, the woman filed a habeas corpus petition with the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, following which the court ordered transfer of the case to the CB-CID in October 2018.
After re-registration of the case, a team of CB-CID sleuths, led by Inspector D. Saravanakumar, and Sub-Inspector Rajangam, began the investigation afresh.
The CB-CID teams, after visiting various places with available clues, found it difficult to trace Madurairajan, who had ended almost all connections with his family members, relatives and friends.
The CB-CID distributed pamphlets and published his photographs in newspapers seeking information about Madurairajan. Recently, the sleuths got a tip-off that Madurairajan was living in Kondraikadu in Peravoorani in Thajvaur district. A CB-CID team traced him to Udukkankollai village.
“He was found with another family. The man revealed that he fled Madurai as he felt insulted by his family members over a property dispute,” the Inspector said. When he landed at the village he found another woman, a young widow with a girl child. He married her and the couple got a child. Madurairajan had not revealed his identity to the new family and was leading a humble life by repairing home appliances.
He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court IV on Tuesday.
