Heavy rain, flooding lead to highway closures, water rescues across Oklahoma
Overnight storms brought heavy rain, causing flooding across the state. Several highways are closed due to flooding, including I-40 in Canadian County.
Eastbound and westbound I-40 is closed at US-81 at El Reno in Canadian County due to flooding at Six-Mile Creek, according to officials. Eastbound I-40 traffic is detouring at Radio Rd. (mm 123) to SH-66 and westbound I-40 traffic is detouring at US-81 to SH-66. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and locate an alternate route.
According to El Reno city officials, the community is experiencing heavy flooding in many areas. Water will continue to rise for the next six to eight hours.
Emergency crews said they are responding to multiple water rescues in the El Reno area.
"Public Safety Personnel are working diligently to assist the citizens affected by high water. El Reno Schools have canceled classes for today. I-40 is closed both east and west bound at this time. ODOT officials are working on diverting traffic but at this time traffic is at a stand-still," officials said in a news release.

El Reno officials are asking resident to stay home and avoid travel. The City of El Reno has opened a temporary shelter located at 401 S. Grand and the Red Cross is responding to assist.

•US-270 is closed south and west of Calumet. US 66 between Banner Road and Radio Road is closed due to flooding.

•SH-80 is closed four miles west of Hulbert near Fort Gibson Lake.
CRAIG CO.
•US-69 is closed 2.6 miles south of the SH-66 junction.
•SH-25 is OPEN 1.5 miles west of the Craig/Ottawa county line.

•SH-127 is closed near Jay just west of US-59 due to a damaged drainage structure.
GRANT CO.
•US-81 is closed between Medford and Kansas state line near Caldwell, Kan.
JOHNSTON CO.
•SH-48A is closed to through traffic between the SH-48 junction in Coleman and SH-7 in Milburn due to a damaged construction detour.
KAY CO.
•US-77 is closed between SH-156 and southern Tonkawa.
LOVE CO.
•SH-77-Scenic is closed at Lake Murray Spillway.
LINCOLN CO.
•SH-66 is closed west of Chandler.
•SH-18 is closed 2 miles south of Chandler.
•SH-18 is closed 7 miles north of Chandler at CR 840.
•SH-102 is closed 2 miles west of Wellston.
MAYES CO.
•US-69A is closed east of US-69 south of Pryor.
•SH-20 is closed 3 miles west of the US-69 junction.
