France recalls Libya is under arms embargo for all

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, May 21 (KUNA) -- France on Tuesday recalled to all parties that Libya is under a United Nations arms embargo which was put in place in 2011, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Amid questions on potential arms deliveries to the government of national accord, headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Agnes von Der Muhll said here that the embargo has been in place and applies to everyone.
"Resolution 1970 of the United Nations Security Council established an arms embargo which is imposed on all," the official said.
"As we have said several times, only a political solution under the authority of the United Nations will allow for an end to be put to the conflict in Libya," she remarked.
French authorities, at the highest level, are in contact with the two main protagonists, Al-Sarraj and "Field-Marshal" Khalifa Haftar, who has been laying siege to Tripoli for several weeks but has bogged down.
Last week, Al-Sarraj travelled for talks with President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and Haftar is expected to do the same sometime this week. (end)
