Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has said Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s decision to miss next week’s Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku, is “bad news”.

However, Emery insists he respects the Armenian’s decision.

Mkhitaryan will not travel with the rest of his Arsenal teammates to Azerbaijan, as he is concerned about his safety.

“It is bad news but we cannot do anything for these issues.

“It is a very, very personal decision and we need to respect him.

“We have to understand the political problems.

“I spoke to him. I came from the Basque country and we had also a big political problem in our country, finishing five, six years ago and I can understand this decision is very, very personal.

“I cannot push him to come with us,” Emery told a press conference on Tuesday.
