KIDS TRIATHLON RAISES MONEY FOR SECRET MEALS

Several dozen kids participated in the seventh annual Tuscaloosa Kids Triathlon at Lake Lurleen State Park on Saturday.

Not only is the event a fun challenge, but every dime of money raised goes to Secret Meals for Hungry Children, a program that helps provide meals for kids on the weekend who probably wouldn’t get a meal otherwise.

“This fundraiser with support from our vendors and parents, and families, really really help the Tuscaloosa community and kids right here in our back yards who don’t have access to nutritional foods,” Community Involvement Specialist Amanda Smart said.

Parents enjoy the triathlon because they say it helps train children to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

“It’s the beginning of the summer so this is the perfect time to get your kids active get them off the couch and playing video games and get out and enjoy this sunny day,” said Michelle Smart, a parent of one of the triathletes. “It’s important that my daughter understands the meaning behind the program and the event and helping other children here in Tuscaloosa receive those meals in their backpack on Friday.”
