HYDERABAD: Although the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is encouraging colleges to offer courses in new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data sciences, and the like, college managements in Telangana will continue to offer traditional courses for the academic year 2019-20.
While AI and data sciences will be introduced as two new specialisations for MTech students from the ensuing academic year, BTech students will continue to have traditional courses.

The process of affiliation and approval of courses shall conclude in the next two-three weeks,” said N Yadaiah, registrar of JNTUH, adding that no of seats for the new courses cannot be determined as of now.
This, at a time, when the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad set a benchmark by introducing country’s first BTech course in artificial intelligence for academic year 2019-20.
As per the new AICTE policy, institutions are also advised to introduce multi-disciplinary engineering courses, especially in computational biology, biotechnology, space, aerospace, agriculture and environmental engineering by reducing the seats in conventional courses.
Meanwhile, the AICTE approved 12 institutions to offer vocational courses, list of which was uploaded by the apex body on its website on Tuesday. As many as 450 seats will be offered in the new institutions in courses such as mobile communication, production technology, refrigeration and air-conditioning, travel and tourism to name a few.
