Police brutality continues in Lahore

LAHORE: Four incidents of police brutality have been reported in the last three days. In the most recent incident, a couple of policemen engaged in the third degree torture of a young man inside a lockup. CCTV footage surfaced and exposed the policemen’s misuse of authority. The victim can be heard screaming loudly in the CCTV footage and begging for mercy.

The policemen laid the victim down on cemented ground and two of them can be seen holding up his legs and arms, while a third thrashes him with a leather cane.

The identity of the officials, police jurisdiction and the victim, however, could not be ascertained. The victim had reportedly been caught for performing wheelies by a band of Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit officials.

Protests against alleged police brutality in Muzaffarabad

It is suspected that the incident took place at the Lytton Road police station. Circle DSP Zaffar Abbass Naqvi spoke about the issue and recommended that the SHO of this area be contacted.

Lytton Road SHO Saifullah Niazi categorically denied that the incident occurred inside his police station. He said that the parents of the offenders had given a written statement to the offices that their children were not tortured.
