Alert from Telangana makes police in AP halt man’s funeral

HYDERABAD: The funeral of a 30-year-old man was stopped on Tuesday by police in Andhra Pradesh after an alert by their Telangana counterparts about his death in suspicious circumstances in Hyderabad. Police in Telangana said that the man’s family had rushed his body from the city to Kambhampadu in Prakasam district without informing police.
Malakpet police said that the deceased, Rama Yogi Reddy, who was running a dental lab in Hyderabad, had died under mysterious circumstances on Monday at his residence in Saleem Nagar.Yogi slept in the bedroom on Sunday night, while his wife and two daughters slept in another room. In the early hours of Monday, his wife tried waking him up but he did not open the door.
“She called her brother-in-law and her sister. The brother-in-law made his way into the locked room through the ventilator and found Yogi hanging to the window grill with a lungi. The deceased’s wife along with her sister then decided to shift Yogi’s body to his native place,” Peddaraveedu SI Ch Prabhakar Rao said.
Yogi’s wife and her sister informed the neighbours and friends that he had died of ill-health. It was one of Yogi’s friends who alerted Malakpet cops about the suspcious death. “We immediately alerted Peddaraveedu cops,” Malakpet inspsector K V Subba Rao said.
Peddaraveedu cops went to Kambhampadu this evening and stopped the funeral arrangements being made by Yogi’s family. “There were ligature marks on the neck and throat of the deceased. We recorded Sumalatha’s and Laxmi Reddy’s statements. They said Yogi had incurred losses in the business,” the SI said and added that Yogi had closed down dental labs and reopened them in new places.
“He is learnt to have mortgaged family jewellery. Family members say he had committed suicide owing to financial problems,” the SI said. Yogi did not leave any suicide note, police said.
