Virgin Atlantic has announced that it's bringing back flights to Mumbai from London in 2019.

Sir Richard Branson 's airline will be offering a new daily route from London Heathrow which will operate year-round, kicking off on Sunday 27th October 2019.

The company has yet to reveal details of the fares on the route, however tickets will be going on sale on the Virgin Atlantic website from Tuesday 28th May.

It's the second route to India which will be on offer, as the airline already runs flights between London and Delhi.

The news comes just a few weeks after Jet Airways suspended operations .

Virgin had a partnership with Jet Airways but the airline said it saw a demand for the routes and therefore an "opportunity to provide alternative options for our customers and meet this demand".

Mumbai isn't the only destination which Virgin Atlantic is adding to its network. The airline is due to launch flights to Tel Aviv in 2019 , as well as a new route to São Paulo in Brazil starting in 2020.

Juha Jarvinen, Executive Vice President, Commercial, at Virgin Atlantic, commented: "2019 marks a significant period of growth for Virgin Atlantic and I’m delighted that we’re continuing to expand our route network once more, by returning to Mumbai.

"Until recently we’ve been able to serve this important market through our partnership with Jet Airways, however, since Jet Airways has sadly suspended its operation, we now have an opportunity to provide alternative options for our customers and meet this demand."

"Combined with our long-standing route to Delhi, we’re able to provide travellers even more opportunity to experience our award winning service between the UK and India.

"Not only are we providing an increased offering to the thriving Indian market, but together with our partners at Delta, we can offer unrivalled choice and more seamless connections to the USA via Heathrow Airport."
