Interior decorator’s modern take on a warehouse with eco-cred

A RUMPUS room large enough for the kids to play indoor basketball is one of the many delights of a warehouse inspired eco house up for sale in Inverleigh.

Interior decorator Annie Dambrosi designed her eclectic take on a modern barn around a 6m-long timber kitchen bench salvaged from the Barwon Heads jetty.

It takes prides of place in the vast main living space at 62 Rankin Rd, Inverleigh, which sits under an exposed steel and timber roof.

The main living area has lots of windows so there’s no need for airconditioning.

The house was designed around the reclaimed 6m kitchen bench.

Ms Dambrosi said fitting in the massive kitchen bench was the inspiration for the large scale living spaces at the 8100sq m property.

Built seven years ago, the three-bedroom house offsets its sizeable physical footprint through solar passive design and a raft of environmentally friendly features like double glazed argon filled windows and a Nectre wood heater/stove that heats the hot water system.

Ms Dambrosi’s son and friends enjoy the outdoor entertainment area.

“I love the whole warehouse style and the loft space so it’s built along those lines to create that sort of space,” Ms Dambrosi said.

“It’s one of those houses you are either going to absolutely love it or hate it.”

The house is divided into two main zones, with the central main bedroom sitting off the open-plan kitchen, dining, loungeroom and study.

The rumpus room is big enough for indoor basketball.

Another massive games room and television corner is the stuff of dreams for children and teenagers and is the gateway to two minor bedrooms.

“There’s a basketball ring in the back kids’ room, you can actually play basketball in there,” Ms Dambrosi said.

“It was decorated so they could be rough and it’s a flexible zone so if someone wants to use it for whatever they can.

“There’s an art table, a table tennis table, a little lounge where you can watch TV.”

The bathroom has garden views.

She said the main bedroom — with its freestanding bath overlooking the garden — was her sanctuary.

“I think the master bedroom is the thing I will miss most. There is a bath in the bedroom for goodness sake,” she said.

“The walk-in wardrobe is the size of a typical bedroom.”

The property also comes with a separate self-contained bungalow, chook shed, dog run and homemade BMX track.

The bungalow adds to the flexibility of the property.

Ms Dambrosi said Inverleigh continued to grow but had retained the feel of a quintessential country town.

Richardson, Newtown agent Tony Hyde has listed the property with price hopes of $995,000.
