Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada police rescue stolen cattle

MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district police of Karnataka, in separate incidents on Tuesday, intercepted vehicles in which cattle were being transported in contravention of Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2010 and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964.
Police seized the vehicles used in transporting the cattle and booked persons under the relevant sections of the act, superintendent of police BM Laxmi Prasad said.

In the first instance, reported from Kadaba police station limits, police on a tip-off intercepted a pickup van at Nelyottu and rescued a cow and one calf that were being transported in a cruel manner.
Police registered a case against Mohammad Iqbal, 38, a resident of Koila village in Puttur taluk as he did not have a permit to transport the cattle. Value of the cattle is Rs 5,000 and the vehicle seized by the police at Rs 2 lakh.
Personnel of Bantwal rural police station rescued three milch cows and two calves that was found near a hillock behind the house of Hassainar at Siddakatte and seized them under section 102 of the CrPC (Power of police officer to seize certain property which may be alleged or suspected to have been stolen). Police said investigation is on into the ownership of the cattle.
In the last instance, personnel of Dharmasthala police station intercepted a pickup vehicle that was headed towards Kokkada from Nelyadi at Teppemajalu. Police found six cattleheads that were being transported in a cruel manner. Police suspect that the cattle in the pickup vehicle were stolen elsewhere and were being transported to a slaughter house. Police subsequently seized the pickup vehicle and took the cattle under their care.
