Deschamps Snubs Arsenal Player Of Season Lacazette In France Squad For Euro Qualifiers

Arsenal forward and Player of the Season, Alexandre Lacazette, has been overlooked again as France head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed his latest France squad for their next European Championship qualifying fixtures and one international friendly match.

Lacazette scored 19 goals as the Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League and reached the Europa League final. He has also won the Arsenal 2018/19 Player of the Season award, but remains without an international cap since November 2017.

Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder received a second call-up after scoring 30 goals in all competitions this season.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is also absent after an underwhelming end to the season at Old Trafford. His last appearance came over a year ago. Manchester City’s treble-winner Aymeric Laporte’s international exile continues.

One Premier League star in the squad is Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko, who is set to start the Champions League final on June 1 and link up with the squad two days later.

Deschamps called up three new players, including Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, for upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Turkey and Andorra and a friendly against Bolivia.

Maignan, who was voted the league’s best goalkeeper last week, was rewarded for his excellent season with French league runner-up Lille.

The 23-year-old Maignan was preferred to Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who was on France’s World Cup-winning team but was not called up this time.

With Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris unavailable for the Bolivia friendly because of the Champions League final against Liverpool, Deschamps called up four keepers. The two others are PSG’s Alphonse Areola, who is set to start against Bolivia, and Montpellier’s Benjamin Lecomte.

The France Full Squad

    Imagine….!

  • Lacazette dropped and Giroud picked..hmm.
Lacazette just enjoy your holiday, your impact in Arsenal this season as been splendid

  • Sometimes coaches prefer to work with certain players. It doesn’t mean the ones not picked are not good.

Buddy, you are so right. Some coaches just like to work with players they are used to.
It doesn’t mean the dropped ones are poor.
With any luck, Lacazette’s time will come.
      Peace.
