Nodal is the only regional Mexican act to debut in the tally’s top 10 in 2019 so far. Out of the 11 top 10 debuts, five were Latin rhythm acts (Bad Bunny, Natti Natasha, Sech, Farruko, and Karol G), three were pop acts (Luis Fonsi, Danny Ocean, Sebastian Yatra), and two were tropical acts (Romeo Santos, Marc Anthony.)
“I’m extremely grateful and happy because I’ve been wanting to release new music for my fans who have been asking for it,” Nodal tells Billboard. “Also happy for the song to land in the top ranks on all platforms. Grateful for my team and all my fans who make everything possible and ready for what’s ahead.”
Nodal’s second studio album — released via Fonovisa/ UMLE — launches with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 16, according to Nielsen Music. Out of those, 1,000 were traditional albums sales, while the bulk of its opening sum was attributed to streaming activity (4,000 in streaming equivalent album units).
It follows Me Dejé Llevar, his first album, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 (Sept. 16, 2017-dated chart) with 9,000 in equivalent album units (6,000 in album sales; 2,000 in streaming equivalent album units).
Ahora marks the highest debut for a regional Mexican album on Top Latin Albums since T3r Elemento’s The Green Trip entered at No. 5 with 4,000 equivalent album units in December 2018.
Plus, at 20 years od, Nodal becomes the youngest act to replace himself at No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums list.
Nodal is also the first act to replace himself at No. 1 since Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio De Lizárraga’s La Mejor Versión de Mi dethroned the band’s En Vivo: Guadalajara – Monterrey from the summit (May 6, 2017).
Dalex Debuts: Farther down the Top Latin Albums chart, urban act Dalex makes his first appearance as Climaxx debuts at No. 13 with 4,000 equivalent album units earned, most of which comprise of streaming activity.
The Pennsylvania-born, Puerto Rican-raised act also earns his first Latin Rhythm Albums chart top 10 as Climaxx, released via Rich Music, arrives at No. 8.
Dalex earned his first Hot Latin Songs entry when “Pa’ Mi” with Rafa Pabón debuted at No. 48 (chart dated April 13), peaking at No. 28 on the latest chart.
Lunay Scores: Plus, 19-year-old Lunay clocks his first Hot Latin Songs top 10 as “Soltera” with Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny soars 41-3 thanks to a lofty 617% boost in streams (9.61 million) and 3,801% gain in digital sales (6,000 downloads) logged in the week ending May 16.
It’s Lunay’s second visit to the list: “Luz Apaga” with Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, and Lyano peaked at No. 26 on Dec. 2018.
