Odisha Lok Sabha Election Results 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday congratulated Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his Biju Janata Dal’s performance in the state Assembly elections. The BJD Thursday looked set to form its government for a fifth straight term negating a Modi wave that is sweeping the country, with its candidates leading in 112 of the state’s 146 seats.
Meanwhile, the BJD firmly secured 12 seats while BJP has got 9 out of 21 Lok Sabha seats. This is good news for the BJP as it has secured four more seats than 2014 elections. In 2014, the BJD had won 20 seats and BJP took one. In the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is not even in the fray as per the latest trends, while the saffron party sees scope for adding to their strength in Parliament from the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha.

Polling was held in 21 Lok Sabha seats and 146 Assembly segments in four different phases on April 11, 18, 23 and 29. In the 2014 elections, the BJP had won a single parliamentary seat of the 21 in Odisha and 10 of the 147 assembly seats.

Although its Lok Sabha tally is set to dip, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday managed to withstand the wave in favour of the BJP across the country. The party also retained power in the Odisha Assembly polls, with its supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik set for a historic fifth term.
In Odisha, one of its focus states where it contested on its own, the BJP’s vote share has risen from 21.5% to 38% this time. It has managed to recapture the ground lost to the BJD in Western Odisha. However, the BJP was unable to translate this advantage to the Assembly seats, where the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD won 113 of the 147 seats. The BJP managed to win only 22. While the BJD registered a 12% lead against its nearest rival, the BJP has reaffirmed its position as the growing alternative party in the coastal state. Read more

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the impressive victory of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Patnaik spoke to Modi over telephone and congratulated him for the huge victory registered by the BJP in the Parliamentary election, sources in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.

BJD candidate Anubhav Mohanty is leading in Kendrapara with over 72000 votes.
BJP seems to be increasing its gains, securing 9 seats while the BJD is holding onto 12 out of 21 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Inching forward, BJP's spokesperson Sambit Patra, who is contesting from Puri constituency, is leading with 6150 votes against BJD rival Pinaki Mishra.
Pramila Bisoyi, BJD candidate, has perhaps clinched the seat emphatically with most number of votes compared to any other candidate from all other constituencies in the state.
The saffron party built its base on women’s security and corruption. Apparently, it's state created a strong network of women leaders who were campaigning on women’s security. Their party leaders claim that the Ujjwala scheme found resonance among the BJD's core women voters. On the issue of corruption, the saffron party has vehemently slammed the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD around the Hockey World Cup, chit funds etc.
BJP's Sambit Patra is now leading from the key constituency of Puri by over 2451 votes against BJD's Pinaki Mishra.
In Odisha, and unlike Bengal, the BJP did not have to face such hostility from the ruling BJD. The BJD’s stance that it would support any party that takes care of Odisha’s interests at the Centre weakened its fight against the BJP in the state. A large section of voters seemed to be in a mood to back the BJP at the Centre while supporting the BJD for the government in the state.
In Odisha, the Biju Janta Dal's Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo of erstwhile princely state of Patna is contesting against his sister-in-law, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, from the BJP. The BJD candidate trailing by over 7,000 votes.

BJP candidates- Suresh Pujari (Bargarh) leading by 11284 votes, Pratap Sarangi (Balasore) by 1663, Aparajita Sarangi (Bhubaneswar) by 5736, Sangeeta Singh Deo (Bolangir) leading by 4408 votes. Basant Panda (Kalahandi) leading by 9466 votes, Sambit Patra (Puri) by 104, Jual Oram (Sundergarh) leading by 8122 votes.
In Odisha, the party registered a vote share of 18 per cent in 2014.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is surging ahead with its candidates leading in 89 assembly constituencies, while BJP nominees are leading in 28 segments as per the latest trends available, officials said Thursday. Odisha has 147 members assembly. Polling in Patkura assembly segment in Kendrapara district was postponed in view of the death of a candidate and again due to cyclone Fani.
The BJP, BJD and Congress are the primary contenders from this seat in the 2019 general election. While five candidates are in the fray, the main contest is between BJP's Kharabela Swain, BJD's Achyuta Samanta and Congress' Monoj Acharya.
In Kandhamal, BJD's Achyutananda Samanta gets a total of 88436 votes, followed by BJP's Mahameghabahan Aira Kharabela Swain getting 62367 votes. The constituency has been a BJD fort. Despite a lot of polarisation, BJD won the seat in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls that followed the killing of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati in 2008.
From Bolangir, BJD's Kalikesh Singh Deo is trailing behind BJP's Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo. Their votes are 67850 and 75818 respectively.

In Aska Lok Sabha seat BJD candidate Pramila Bisoi is leading against her nearest BJP rival Anita Subahdarshini by 17,404 votes. Bisoi has a total vote count of 53987.
BJP's Jay Panda trailing by over 2000 from Odisha's Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency. Panda was suspended from BJD earlier this year for alleged anti-party activities. He was once very close to CM Patnaik. He later joined the BJP. He is up against BJD's actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty. While Mohanty may not be a serious political contender in this elections, the true fight is between the CM and Panda.
From Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency, after trailing initially, BJP's Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo is leading with 2384 votes against BJD's Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo. Kalikesh was elected as the MP of Bolangir in the 2014 elections after he defeated BJP candidate Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo by a margin of at least 1,04,299 votes. This time too, BJP has fielded Sangeeta Deo to take on Kalikesh.

From Aska, BJD LS Candidate Pramila Bisoyi leads with a margin of 12453 votes against BJP's Anita Subhadarshini. Swain is the current MP for the Aska parliamentary constituency. If you remember, Swain was elected as MP of Aska parliamentary constituency in the 2014 election after he defeated Srilokanath Ratha of the Congress by a margin of 3,11,997 votes.
BJD's Achyuta Samanta leading from Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency, while BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Sundergarh Jual Oram leading. The Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency will see a triangular contest between BJP candidate Jual Oram, BJD candidate Sunita Biswal and Congress candidate George Tirkey. This Lok Sabha seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs).

According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Kumar, every counting hall has at least seven tables each for Assembly and Lok Sabha vote counting.
A micro observer has been appointed for every table to ensure free and fair counting of votes, he said. It has been estimated that each constituency will require an average of 30 rounds of counting. The ECI has granted additional 411 tables for Odisha as the state conducted simultaneous polling for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats, Kumar said.
This is the first Lok Sabha election in which VVPAT slips will be compulsorily verified with the EVM count in five randomly-selected polling stations of every Assembly segment. Mandatory verification was introduced with the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections in 2017, but it was limited to one VVPAT per Assembly segment. This was increased to five polling stations by the Supreme Court on April 8.

Odisha Lok Sabha Election results 2019: The counting exercise is on in over 4,000 counting centres amid concerns raised by opposition parties over alleged tampering of EVMs. They have asked the Election Commission to ensure transparency in counting. Election Commission officials said results are expected only by late evening.
