Himachal Pradesh Election Results Highlights: BJP headed towards victory

The ruling BJP is heading towards victory in Himachal Pradesh as its candidates are leading with over 3.23 lakh votes on each of the four Lok Sabha seats, a state election officer said. In Kangra, BJP candidate Kishan Kapoor is leading by 4,57,133 votes over his nearest rival Pawan Kajal of Congress, a state election officer said.

HIMACHAL PRADESH: The ruling BJP is heading towards victory in Himachal Pradesh as its candidates are leading with over 3.23 lakh votes on each of the four Lok Sabha seats, a state election officer said.
In Kangra, BJP candidate Kishan Kapoor is leading by 4,57,133 votes over his nearest rival Pawan Kajal of Congress, a state election officer said.
Sitting BJP MP Anurag Thakur is leading by 3,84,922 votes in Hamirpur over his nearest rival Ram Lal Thakur of Congress.

In Shimla, BJP candidate Suresh Kashyap of the BJP is leading by 3,23,659 votes over his nearest rival Dhani Ram Shandil of Congress
Sitting BJP MP Ram Swaroop is leading by 3,77,001 votes over his nearest rival Aashray Sharma of the Congress in Mandi, he added.
The hill state has four parliamentary constituencies. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP made a clean sweep in Himachal winning all the four Lok Sabha seats with a massive margin.
Himachal Pradesh has only two major contenders in BJP and Congress. The vote share of BJP was 53.85% and Congress' was 41.07%. Two more parties, the CPIM and AAP had tried to make fray in the state but without gaining substantial figures.

In Kangra constituency, former Himachal CM Shanta Kumar had won for a record fourth time from this seat. This year Congress has fielded Pawan Kajal. Kangra has also witnessed participation from regional outfits. Four other candidates are Subhash Sharma from Jan Kranti, Kehar Singh from Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP), PC Vishwakarma from Nav Bharat Ekta Dal and Subhash Sharma from Himachal Jan Kranti.
In 2014, Virender Kashyap of BJP retained the Shimla (Reserve) Parliamentary seat, defeating Mohan Lal Brakata of Congress, while AAP candidate Subhash Chander and CPIM candidate Jagat Ram polled 14,213 and 11,424 votes. This year Congress has fielded Col Dhani Ram Shandil.
In Mandi, BJP's greenhorn Ram Swaroop Sharma defeated the sitting Congress MP and wife of chief minister Pratibha Singh.
BJP candidate Anurag Thakur, son of former chief minister P.K.Dhumal retained the Hamirpur seat.
The primary issues cited by the people of the state are better job opportunities, healthcare and water for farming. For rural voters, public transport and condition of roads were deemed to be in a very poor state in need of urgent attention.
On the other hand, CPIM has promised to get Himachal Pradesh its 7.19% share of the joint property which was promised when the state was carved out of Punjab.
