Patna Zoo welcomes a baby giraffe
It was a happy news for the members of Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan, commonly known as Patna Zoo, when Srishti, the giraffe, gave birth to a baby calf on Friday. With this new born, the total number of giraffes in the zoo has increased to six. Currently the mother giraffe and its baby are under complete medical supervision.
The calf has been sent to the breeding centre for a month to ensure full-time medical care.
It will be put to display once it is completely fit and fine. Amit Kumar, director of the zoo, said, “We all are very excited for the birth of a new member. Since it is summer, we have to protect both mother and baby from the scorching heat. Suitable temperature is provided to them throughout day and night and veterinary physicians are around them. I hope both will recover soon so that they can be back in their cages. Also in next few weeks, we will bring in a female zebra from Kolkata. This is also an achievement for us.”
Besides, recently 500 tortoises have been brought in the zoo from Gaya. This is attracting lots of visitors and is another happy news for the zoo authorities. Anusha Pandey, a college student and a visitor, said, “For the first time I have seen such a huge number of tortoises together. I can see that kids are even more excited to see it. I hope all of them will adapt to the new location soon. Zoo authorities are seen taking care of their basic requirements. Clean water is provided to them along with fresh food.”
