AMETHI: Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani won Uttar Pradesh's Amethi constituency with a margin of 55,120 votes against Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Amethi is considered a stronghold of the Congress party since years. Irani polled a total of 4,67,598 votes. Gandhi has been winning on the seat since 2004.
Despite the poor performance of the party in 2014 general elections at Centre, the Congress president had defeated Irani on the seat with a margin of 1,07,903 votes.
Overall, BJP won 303 seats while Congress has been successful in 52 constituencies.
Amethi Lok Sabha ConstituencyAmethi Lok Sabha constituency seat of Uttar Pradesh is currently held by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi. This seat has been mostly held by the Indian National Congress (INC). Rahul Gandhi held the seat for the longest period, from 2004 to present. Amethi seat had also been held by the former party president Sonia Gandhi, late Rajiv Gandhi, and Sanjay Gandhi.
